Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

IMDB

Well, this was a film I was looking forward to for quite some time…., and they’ve actually managed to keep the magic working. They don’t seem to have chopped off too much of the story - but there’s still things lacking, and things have been re-arranged.

The characters themselves have matured into their roles quite well, but the new Dumbledore simply doesn’t have the regality and magnificence required of the head wizard. The ring in his beard gives him more the appearance of a vagabond than that of a world-altering personality. He simply isn’t strong enough.

Small, little things, which might have made the story a bit more complete, were unfortunately dropped. For example, Lupin immediately knowing what the Maurauders Map was. He never mentioned to Harry that he was one of the people that WROTE the map. Or the significance of Perriwinkle and Black being Animagus, and that James Potter was one too. And that the shape of the Patronus - it was the shape of James Potter’s Animagus.

The “romance” between Hermionne and Ron is only emphasized in the movie - I can’t remember these awkward moments taking place in the books. Which explains why Emma Watson thinks that Hermionne will end up with Ron at the end of the 7 books.

The film moved too quickly - especially the end - with each step almost happening every 5 minutes.

Good point about the map….didn’t think of it before. The romance between H & R? It becomes obvious in book 4. I am not sure about book 3 though.

What do you think is lacking in the movie? I thought that it has something to do with human touch. I rather enjoy seeing the growing up pain that Harry has to endure……..well, not that I am cruel, but that’s something reminds me of my own growing pain and that’s all human. But in the film, there is only magic, angry…..and no human touch!
